A Sunday afternoon concert in the 1873 Lauriston Chapel.

Combining the unique character of Langley Estate with the owners’ 30-year international experience as touring solo musicians, Langley is also a magnificent performing arts venue.

Concert rooms, including the historic 1873 Lauriston Chapel complete with a spectacular 1875 pipe organ and concert grand piano, give the ‘Langley Magic’ to a wide variety of cultural events throughout the year.

2021 marked the formal beginning of a new era at Langley, when the Lauriston Chapel was launched as a concert venue. Since then, the yearly seasons at Langley continue to feature artists from around the world, with greatly varied programs, all suited to the intimate ambience of the historic chapel. The ‘meet the performers’ post-concert refreshments in the Langley Hall mansion have become an integral part of the series.

From classical chamber music concerts, solo pipe organ concerts, jazz evenings, solo song recitals, piano recitals and choral concerts to Deluxe High Teas, guided tours, open gardens and special events such as champagne, or food and wine, tastings, Langley will have something for you to enjoy as an audience member or participate in as a connoisseur!

Letters of a Black Snake is the featured item in an afternoon of Australian song, history and storytelling, featuring baritone Christopher Hillier and Rising Artists of the Australian Contemporary Opera Company (ACOCO).

Ned Kelly's letters - plain-spoken and personal - set to music by composer George Palmer, offer a portrait that reaches beyond the legend: a man writing about family, hardship, loyalty, injustice and survival in colonial Victoria.

Australian baritone Christopher Hillier brings a wealth of operatic and concert experience to the program, shortly before travelling to London to make his international Wagnerian debut in Die Walküre. Acclaimed for his finely detailed musicianship and strong dramatic presence, Christopher Hillier brings clarity and conviction to Letters of a Black Snake, that causes audiences to perhaps reexamine their perceptions of Ned Kelly - the man, the myth.

Alongside Christopher Hillier, ACOCO Rising Artists perform works by Sally Whitwell, Esther Rofe and Elena Kats-Chernin - three leading Australian composers with individual musical voices. These beautiful songs move between wit, lyricism, observation and theatrical flair.

Letters of a Black Snake brings together a major Australian historical voice, contemporary composers and emerging performers. A program built around distinctive Australian music, and artists at different stages of substantial careers.

Renowned flautist Masahide Kurita and concert organist Thomas Heywood join forces to take you on a captivating musical journey.

‘The climate is salubrious’ in beautiful Bendigo, and this magnificent concert - a real Festive Fantasy with not one, but two internationally acclaimed musicians, in the wonderful atmosphere of the Lauriston Chapel at Langley, will make you find your perfect place!

From the beauty of Franz Schubert’s lyricism to the immortal delights of Gabriel Fauré, with a virtuosically incredible Hungarian Fantasy - together with three dazzling organ pieces from Fauré’s Parisian colleagues performed on the spectacular 1875 pipe organ in the Lauriston Chapel - this glorious afternoon will be an unforgettable experience.

After winning first prize in the prestigious All-Japan Student Music Competition in Tokyo in 1992, Masahide Kurita’s studies took him from Tokyo National University to the Royal Academy of Music in London. Kuri subsequently studied with the legendary Sir James Galway, who became his mentor. Kuri is renowned for his highly polished technique, rich tone, and depth and clarity of musical expression.

Thomas Heywood is ‘without argument one of the world’s best concert organists’. Thomas has travelled over 1.2 million kilometres performing solo concerts on the most celebrated pipe organs across the globe, touring in venues from Windsor Castle to the largest pipe organ in New York City. Heywood has performed Mozart in Vienna, Tchaikovsky in Moscow, Handel in London and Beethoven in Bonn to both critical and public acclaim.
